FAQ

You do not need to qualify to participate. Simply fill out this form to let us know you'll be competing. If you have questions about participating, please call our Registration Hotline: (206) 681-9378.
In a regular season, athletes are only allowed to compete in one sport at State Games. We have increased the amount of sports one can participate in for the Virtual Summer Games. Limiting the number of sports will further help an athlete and coach develop a more focused training plan.
Not at all. While it is more fun to train with a team and a coach – even if teams can’t be together in person – you can sign up on your own.
Since the Virtual Summer Games are not like our traditional regional or state competitions, we will not be awarding medals. Each participant will receive a certificate of completion and other participation incentives so join us and start training!
No problem. Check the section for the sport(s) you’re interested in for information on equipment modifications.
Results for each event can be submitted starting Monday, August 3 through 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday, August 10 in the Submit Your Score section. There, you’ll find instructions on how to transfer the results from your scorecard to the online submission form. If you are unable to submit your results online, you can email your completed scorecard to your Region Manager. No other forms of submissions will be accepted.
We strongly encourage you to get the consent of your doctor before participating in any Special Olympics activity however, we will not be requiring a current medical form for the Virtual Summer Games. A medical form will still be required for in-person participation.
Complete an incident report form and send it to your coach, Area Director, or SOWA staff for submission.
No, in-person participation is not allowed until your county reaches Phase 4. See the Return to Play Timeline to learn about SOWA’s guidelines for returning to in-person participation. Once your county reaches Phase 4, your coach may complete the In-Person Application to apply for in-person participation.
For soccer, softball and golf you may compete in all individual events or one (1) team event:

*Individual Events: Your scores from each individual event will be combined to form your final score, which is used to determine your awards placement. You are not required to compete in all individual events offered in the sport(s) you chose, however, your final score will be lower and affect your awards placement if you do not participate in all the individual events.

*Team Events: The combined scores from each of your teammates will determine the team’s final score and will be used to determine your team’s awards placement.

For athletics, you can compete in up to three (3) individual events and one (1) relay event, for a total of four (4) events:

*Individual Events: You will be scored separately for each event and awarded accordingly.

*Relay Event: The combined scores from each of your teammates will determine the team’s final score and will be used to determine your team’s awards placement.
We are monitoring and evaluating a number of factors to determine how our Fall season will move forward and will have more to share in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on our social media channels for more information.
